Mowing for a low-lying suburb
Musselburgh sits on flat, low-lying land close to the harbour, which means lawns here tend to hold moisture longer than sections further up the hill. That can mean faster grass growth through spring and summer, and a lawn that gets away on you quicker than you'd expect if mowing gets left irregular. A set weekly or fortnightly cycle keeps on top of that growth before it becomes a bigger job — which is a big part of why we've moved to taking on regular clients only rather than occasional one-off mows.
What's included
- Weekly, fortnightly, or monthly mowing, with a winter slow-down to once a month if needed
- Bagging or mulching options, whichever suits your lawn and how fast it's growing
- Clear, upfront pricing based on your property and mowing cycle — no hidden fees, and no cost difference for going electric
- Hedges and light tree work — branching, topping, pruning, and safe removals — available as an add-on, but only for clients already on a regular mowing round with us
What's not included: we don't take on once-off mowing jobs, and we're not a green waste removal service. If that's what you're after, we're not the right call for it — we'd rather say so upfront than take on work we can't do well.
Why electric works well in Musselburgh
Electric mowing means no fumes and low noise. Musselburgh is a mix of older sections with houses fairly close together, so a quiet electric mower running through the neighbourhood is a lot less disruptive than a petrol one, especially if we're through early or on a weekday.
Some people assume electric mowing costs more than petrol, using the same logic as electric cars costing more than petrol ones. That's not how it works here. We charge the same rates as petrol-powered competitors in Dunedin — going electric doesn't change your quote. Read more on that here.
WINZ-approved mowing in Musselburgh
We're WINZ approved. If a long-term injury, illness, or disability makes it hard to keep on top of your lawn, regular mowing may be something Work and Income can help fund through the Disability Allowance — worth raising with your GP if that sounds like your situation. See how WINZ-approved mowing works with us.
Common questions from Musselburgh residents
My lawn grows fast — can you keep up with that?
Yes, that's exactly what a regular cycle is for. If your lawn is growing quickly, we can set you up on a weekly or fortnightly round rather than fortnightly or monthly, so it never gets away on you.
Do you do one-off mows for a single tidy-up?
No — we only take on regular, ongoing mowing clients. That's what lets us keep our service reliable for the clients we already have.
Is electric mowing actually as good as petrol?
Yes. Modern electric mowers cut just as well as petrol — the difference is no fumes, less noise, and no engine servicing costs pushing the price up.
What if my property has stairs or a steep section?
Let us know when you request a quote — we account for property access and terrain when pricing the job.
Do you handle green waste removal?
Not as a standalone service. We mostly use your own green waste bin as part of a regular mow.
